Crank Case Ventilation Mod

This mod. will stop or greatly reduce the amount of oil being finely misted around your engine compartment resulting in a coating of dust on everything, especially your turbo boots which are prone to leak. It will also keep oil from entering your turbo. You will need to reverse the housing that sits on top of the left valve cover so that the outlet is to the rear of the engine. You can then run a hose to your CCV external filter. The filter consists of two 3.5 inch pvc caps, a section of 3.5 pvc pipe, a couple of elbow fittings and some diesel rated hose. Inside the filter are three round plastic "sink scrubbers" that serve to catch the blow-by oil. I clean it out about every 7-8k miles. There is usually 2-3 tbl. spoons of oil inside. Some people just run a tube all the way to the end of the truck and let it vent into the air. The system is designed for these gases to be drawn out of the crank case by a venturi effect from the air intake between the air filter box and the turbo. Instead of going from the valve cover directly to the air intake I have directed the blow-by through an external filter that traps the heavier oil, it is then routed back up to the air intake filter. My engine compartment now stays clean and my turbo and engine receives cleaner air.
