Work Day, August 26th 2007
The men are gathering rocks to build a stone container that will hold the water after it is pumped up from the spring below.
It didn't take long before we had two large pile of rocks. all we have to do now is haul in some sand and a few bags of cement and we'll be ready to build.
Down in the canyon we gathered rocks to build the stone container that will hold the submersible pump.
There is plenty of sand in the creek bed so we won't have to bring any down.
We want to involve the people that will benefit from this water project as much as possible so they will have a sense of ownership of it when we turn it over to them. They will then take care of it because it is theirs. If we came in and did everything and gave it to them, it would convey the wrong type of message. They would learn to expect handouts and not want to work together as a community. Each family has had a part in this water project and when it is finished they will take pride in what they came together and did.
